Sex
drive -- also known as libido -- is a natural part of the body's
maturation process that starts around puberty. If all goes well, both
men and women will have an elevated sex drive well into adulthood. But
if your wife happens to have a low sex drive, this can eventually lead
to a problem with your relationship. Although it might be hard to deal
with, there are ways to improve her libido.
Step 1
Have your wife
perform Kegel exercises. Kegel muscles wrap around the vagina and anus,
and working them helps strengthen the entire pelvic floor, notes
assistant clinical professor of ob/gyn and psychiatry Dr. Laura Berman,
writing for EverydayHealth.com. Berman also states, "Strong Kegels can
heighten your arousal during sex, enhance your orgasms, improve blood
circulation to the genitals, and increase vaginal tone and lubrication."
To do these exercise, your wife must act as if she is stopping her
urine in mid-stream. Have her hold this contraction for five seconds,
release and then repeat 10 times.
Step 2
Encourage your
wife to run. Exercise offers a number of benefits to your wife when she
is trying to increase her sex drive, notes Alice from Columbia
University's internet health resource "Go Ask Alice!" It can elevate her
mood, increase her self image, increase her stamina and improve
circulation to her whole body, including her sexual organs. Suggest that
she does 30 minutes of aerobic exercise five or more days a week. These
can include running, biking, swimming, stepping, rowing or walking. To
make it more fun and intimate, join in with her.
Step 3
Introduce
relaxation techniques to your wife. Stress and anxiety are big
contributors to a low sex drive, says sexologist Dr. Logan Levkoff,
writing for HuffingtonPost.com. In order to become more calm, have your
wife participate in relaxation activities like yoga, tai-chi, meditative
breathing and muscle relaxation. As with exercise, join her to make it
more interesting.
Step 4
Make a
connection. Open communication with your wife is very important. Talk to
her about what you do and don't like, and be honest about what you are
feeling. Also, seek the help of a sex therapist where you can both go
together to get advice on coping strategies and other treatment options.
Step 5
Get more
creative. Boredom in your sex life can lead to a low libido. Shake
things up a bit by trying some new things. Have sex in different
locations, try some different positions and experiment with sex games or
toys.
Step 6
Have your wife
eat libido-boosting foods. Garlic contains allicin, which can give the
sexual organs an increase in blood flow. Prepare this in some dishes for
your wife, or just have her eat it as is. If she does not like the
taste or smell, you can get it for her in supplement form.
